1+1+1 er tilraunakennt samstarf þriggja hönnunarteyma – Teymið notar óvenjulega og súrrealíska aðferð við að hanna nýja hluti. Hvert teymi hannar hlut í þremur pörtum og er þeim síðan blandað saman við vörur hinna teymanna. Útkoman er óútreiknanlegir nýjir hlutir sem enginn gat séð fyrir. Teymin deila einungis reglu um samsetningar og stærðir innan einhverra skekkjumarka, en efnisvali, litum o.s.frv er haldið leyndu þar til hópurinn hittist til að setja saman hinar 27 mismunandi útkomur sem þessi aðferð. skilar. 1+1+1 hópurinn starfaði fyrst saman árið 2015 og er búinn að skapa fjölda vara með þessari aðferð. hann hefur sýnt víða um heim og starfað með hinum ýmsu fyrirtækjum.

1+1+1 is an experimental collaboration between designers from three Nordic countries – Hugdetta from Iceland, Petra Lilja from Sweden and Aalto+Aalto from Finland.  The project examines and reimagines objects by having each studio design an object consisting of three distinct parts and then mixing the parts up into unpredictable combinations. A set of rules are agreed upon but no information is shared during the process in order not to influence the design work. 

The project started in March 2015 at Design March in Reykjavik where each studio designed a floor lamp. The end-results – 27 different lamp compilations were totally unpredictable, ranging from strange to exhilarating. Since then they have designed everything from 2D designs on chlothing and. wallpaper to mirrors and cabinets.

1+1+1 is a rare kind of collaboration with no compromises as each studio designs their objects according to their own philosophy. Combining the different parts into new combinations is an almost brutally concrete form of cooperation.
